This photo depicts an automatic floodgate holding back the flood waters of Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
This floodproofing measure was installed after Memorial Day Flood of 2015 destroyed the lower level of the building. There is a commercial flood door in place as a backup in the event that water breaches the floodgate.

Following the Memorial Day Flood of 2015, the son of this elderly couple contacted us for floodproofing. Their home is located in the Memorial area of Houston and due to significant drainage issues in the area, their street is like a river when heavy rains come. Floodproofing was performed in the fall of 2015, and their home has successfully survived the Tax Day flood of 2016 and Hurricane Harvey in 2017. The wife told us, “this is one of the best decisions we have ever made, which is saying something for a 75 and 80 year old.”

This Houstonian from the Memorial area flooded during Memorial Day Flood of 2015. He contracted to have his brick walls floodproofed, and opted to leave his doorways unprotected. He sandbags his doorways whenever bad weather is predicted and has successfully survived Tax Day Flood of 2016 and Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

In 2014, the lower level of our New Jersey condo took in about a foot of water from a flash flood. Anyone who has gone through it, knows what a mess it is to deal with the aftermath – cutting out sheetrock, drying everything, throwing out furniture, restoring, dealing with insurance.
Not wanting to go through that again, I found the FloodSafe USA website and contacted them to see if they could help. I was a little hesitant about using a company based so far away, but I liked the description of the process and wanted to get a flood door professionally installed, so I took a chance. FloodSafe was able to do the work pretty quickly, flood proofing our downstairs and installing one of their doors.
In September of 2015, the system got its first test, when we got another flash flood from a heavy rainstorm. We had 2 feet of water at the outside of the door and almost nothing coming inside. The FloodSafe system spared us from having to go through it all again – there was no damage, no insurance claim, no hassle. I am very glad we took the chance to put in the FloodSafe USA flood proofing system.

In April of 2013 we had a bad flood that destroyed our first floor: hardwood, cabinets, furniture, etc.. When we discovered the source of the flooding was a known issue by the city, and would likely occur again if the city didn’t address it, we were desperate to find a solution to protect our home. We spent days scouring the internet reading about sandbags and building retaining walls but just before ordering some sandbags we did some more Google searches on every combination of words involving floodproofing a home and somehow stumbled on the FloodSafe website. Our first reaction was it was too good to be true, but after talking to the Owner and calling other customers we decided to make the investment in getting both external doors replaced as well as the foundation protected.
At the time none of FloodSafe’s prior customers had their floodproofing tested but we didn’t have any other options so it seemed like the best solution. The city ultimately addressed our flooding issue but it took two full years to do so. During that two years we would have had four more floods as bad or worse than the initial but fortunately the floodproofing worked and not a drop of water ever came inside. The first time it stopped the water we were ecstatic, the investment already paid for itself in a matter of months, not to mention the elimination of the stress you’re probably familiar with if your family has been through something similar.
As you can imagine, we don’t have a single regret and this has been the best investment we have made on the house. The piece of mind in knowing we almost never have to worry about flooding again is priceless.

Having flooded three times before, this family decided they were not willing to go through that again. They proudly announced on Facebook after Hurricane Harvey in 2017 that their home was dry thanks to FloodSafe.

HARVEY UPDATE: After Hurricane Harvey, the client wrote: “we were lucky. Lots of runoff in the back which was held in check by your system.”
I live in Houston TX in a neighborhood that is prone to flash floods. Even though my home is in a 500 year flood plain, I had noticed that water used to pool up in my backyard. With neighboring construction the risk of flooding increased and prompted me into action. I did some searches over the internet and found the FloodSafeUSA website with a description of services. After my initial call, Ron Helton evaluated my house and suggested that I seal the back and sides of my house using his patented approach. During the flood on May 2015, my neighborhood received more than 8 inches of rain and there was significant water pooling (> 2 inches) on my back wall. I was able to rest easy knowing that I was protected by FloodSafeUSA’s flood prevention system. Besides the outstanding work Ron has always been very responsive via both email and has visited me since completion of my job to ensure that the FloodSafeUSA system was working and providing the required protection. In summary I strongly endorse Ron and FloodSafeUSA.

We contacted them after Hurricane Harvey 2017 to see how they fared.
‘We did great. Don’t know about all the neighbors. The water came up to about 1″ above the top of the foundation, but thanks to the flood proofing none came into the house.‘
